January is around the corner and as is tradition for this month, many people will embark on a vegan journey for the first time.

According to Veganuary, the campaign which launched in 2014 to encourage people to try a plant-based diet, 3.5million people across 178 countries are expected to join in next year.

It therefore comes as no surprise that Aldi has announced a new range of vegan meals to be added to its stores on 2 January 2020, with the aim to make it easier for meat-eaters to make the swap to veganism.

There’s a range of products being added, including ready-meals, as well as dinner items and snacks.

Taking its inspiration from the popularity of vegan sausage rolls from Greggs, who was first to introduce this now super-trend, the chain has released the Plant Menu Vegan Sausage Roll.

There’s a range of products being added, including ready-meals, as well as dinner items and snacks.

Taking its inspiration from the popularity of vegan sausage rolls from Greggs, who was first to introduce this now super-trend, the chain has released the Plant Menu Vegan Sausage Roll.

It’s available in two flavours: No Pork or BBQ Jackfruit, and they cost 99p each.

Tesco and Morissons also sell their own versions, with the latter introducing a footlong-sized roll that weighs 466g.

Another plant-based sausage on the menu includes the Plant Menu Vegan Rosemary & Onion Sausages. According to Aldi, these ‘resemble the real deal in both shape, size and taste’, with 300g available at less than a pound (99p).

This product will be released slightly earlier than the others, available in stores from 30 December.

The other exception to the launch date, the Plant Menu Vegan Pizza, retailing at £1.75, will launch on New Year’s Eve, just in time for the hangover the following day (we see what you’re doing there, Aldi).

Choose from three flavours: BBQ Jackfruit, Spicy Cauliflower or ‘Bacon’ and Mushroom.

Both the rosemary and onion sausages and the pizza will be available until March.

But everyone knows a pizza meal isn’t complete without a side order; dig into Aldi’s Specially Selected Vegan Parcels (£2.99 for two).

The hand-made pastry parcels are filled with vegetables, herbs and spices, with the choice of BBQ Jackfruit and Spicy Firecracker Vegetable.

For lunch, those looking to replace the classic tuna and cucumber sandwich can try the Loma Lind Fishless Tuna, TUNO (£1.19 per can). It’s made from textured soy protein, which tastes of seaweed powder and vegan fish flavouring, and is available in mayonnaise or spring water.

If you’re on-the-go and don’t fancy making your own sandwich, try the Limited Edition Eat & Go Korean BBQ Style Chick’n Sandwich.

The sandwich features Korean BBQ ‘chicken style pieces’ (though Aldi has not specified what these are made from) nestled among spinach leaves, pink pickled onions and vegan mayonnaise.

Prefer a wrap? No problem.

Munch on the Eat & Go Vegan Onion Bhaji with Sweet Potato and Cauliflower Wrap (£1.79), stuffed with onion bjahi, spiced cauliflower, sweet potato purée, pickled red cabbage, mango and apricot chutney and spinach in a spiced tortilla wrap.

Other dishes include the Inspired Cuisine Vegan Ready Meals, such as Mushroom Bolognese and Three Bean Chilli, both £2.49 – or try the frozen collection: Smoky BBQ Jackfruit, Red Pepper & Mango Curry and Yellow Thai Curry.

Each frozen ready-meal is priced £1.99 and will be available until March.
