Rangers won away at Celtic Park for the first time since 2010 in a ferocious Old Firm derby on Sunday, though the game did not pass without controversy and once again Alfredo Morelos was at the centre of it.
Steven Gerrard’s side took a first half lead through Ryan Kent but were pegged back by a controversial deflected strike from Callum McGregor which appeared to hit Odsonne Edouard’s hand on the way in.
But Rangers rallied from that setback in the second half and defender Nikola Katic headed the team back in front as the visitors dug in to see out the victory.
But they were reduced to 10 men very late in the game, with Morelos given a second yellow card for diving when clean through on goal in the 94th minute.
It sparked ugly scenes on and off the pitch, with the Colombian striker protesting his innocence and Rangers coach Michael Beale also being shown a red card and sent to the stands for his reaction.
As Morelos made his way to the touchline to head down the tunnel, he made a ‘cut-throat’ gesture with his hands towards the baying Celtic fans before a member of the Rangers team ushered him away.

It is Morelos’ second red card in an Old Firm derby – having been sent off six times in the Scottish Premiership since the start of last season – while he has now gone 12 games against Celtic without a goal.
The full-time whistle blew moments after Morelos’ exit and Gerrard went wild, fist-pumping and kissing the television camera before celebrating with the travelling support.
But Morelos’ actions at the end of the game will no doubt be the talking point in the coming days and he was slammed by supporters of both teams on social media afterwards, and he could now be handed retrospective punishment…

Morelos could be in more trouble for his knife across the throat actions when he was leaving the pitch. Rangers would be better off getting rid of him, he’s just too much of a liability and he’s a horrible human being. Read up on him, he’s vile in every way

Morelos is looking for a serious ban over the throat slit signs
— Colin (@ColinDeTurold) December 29, 2019
@RangersFC Morelos seriously needs a big ban diving constantly goading the home fans and then after being sent off doing a motion that can only be described as cut your throat SFA need to seriously look at minimum 8 game ban

The Rangers deserved that, and Lennon and Celtic should have seen it coming after that LC final. Morelos though could be in real bother with the slit throat gesture!
