South Africa beat England by 107 runs in the Boxing Day Test at Centurion to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
Chasing a record 376 to secure an unlikely victory, England were bowled out for 268 on day four of the Test despite resistance from opener Rory Burns (84) and captain Joe Root (48).
Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada finished with four wickets and Anrich Nortje took three as Mark Boucher kick-started his reign as South Africa head coach with an impressive victory.
For England, the 107-run loss represents their second defeat from three matches under Chris Silverwood, who replaced former coach Trevor Bayliss following the last summer’s Ashes series.
