A great aunt murdered her 10 month-old great niece by shooting her in the face, it is claimed.
Tamika Stallworth reportedly killed Jamaya Austin on Christmas Eve after allegedly firing into a car the infant was in in a bid to hit someone else.
But Stallworth, of Peterman in Alabama, is said to have mis-aimed the pistol and hit baby Jamaya instead.
The infant was rushed to a hospital in Mobile, where she succumbed to her injuries, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.
Marcus Thompson, who is related to both Stallworth and Jamaya, called the incident ‘devastating.’
He told WKRG: ‘I hate it happened. I’m a father here and I reiterate that fact.
‘I just can’t imagine losing a child in that manner you know,
Anytime you lose a child like that it’s devastating.
‘Most of us up here are related some sort of way.
‘It’s a tight-knit community. We’re all just family.
‘It’s been like that many, many years. This is devastating.
‘This is a set back not only to that family personally, but to all of us.’
Stallworth faces a murder charge and is being held in lieu of $750,000 bond ahead of her next court appearance.
