Robbie Williams met his wife Ayda Field in very interesting circumstances, as he’d just slept with his drug dealer.
The former Take That star famously battled with substance abuse in the late 90s and noughties and checked himself into rehab back in 2007 after taking what he once described as a ‘heart-stopping’ amount of prescription drugs.
But after overcoming his addiction problems, Robbie’s life both professional and personal have gone from strength to strength.
He’s now married to model Ayda, 40, with whom he shares three children – Theodora, seven, Charlton, five, and Colette, one.
And fate had an interesting way of putting them together.
Speaking to the Daily Mail’s You magazine, Robbie recalled: ‘My drug dealer had just left, I’d slept with her and she’d left me a bag of drugs.’
Doubt he used that as a conversation-starter with Ayda… or maybe he did!
Robbie, 45, recalls how he dumped Ayda several times during the dating stage, but it was a conversation with Cameron Diaz that made him realise the true extent of his feelings for the former X Factor judge.
‘I bumped into Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore,’ Robbie explained.
‘I started talking about this person I’d just ended a relationship with and was listing all these things about her brilliance when Cameron said, “I don’t think it’s over”.’
Clearly Cameron is a wise woman, indeed.
‘At that moment the universe spoke to me. I left and went straight to Ayda’s house and committed to her.’
Coincidentally, Ayda recently recalled her first meeting with Robbie which happened two weeks before his rehab stint, and admitted she had concerns.
